I’m entering this photo into the Island County Fair! I’m pretty excited – it’s one of my favourite images. It was shot for Alexandria von Bromssen, owner of the Red Square Boutique in San Mateo, CA – model, Sommer Merrill . It’s totally fashiony – a photographic avenue, that recently, I’ve been giving more consideration as something I’d like to pursue. Hopefully the judges here on the island will like it as much as I do!
I decided to use Fine Balance Studios in Bayview for the print, and got to talking to Joe Menth, Chief Creative Officer – whose title made me smile.
Fine Balance has a fully stocked photo studio available for rent to the public!
He’s been trying to get a weekly gathering together to do some lighting workshops and critiques – appropriately titled Friday Night Lights. He asked if I would be interested in teaching some classes. Hell yes! So I’m super excited about that and need to make a flier and start seeing if people are interested. I’m planning on offering a 1 hour class in Basic Studio Lighting for $30, but people need to know how to use their cameras in manual mode – duhn, duhn, duhhhhhhn – so I should probably also offer a How to [Really] Use Your Camera class too. GAH! I am so excited! And this will totally benefit Fine Balance because, since it’s basically the only studio available for hourly rental around here, the people taking that class will probably want to book it! Hurray!
Finally my photo business is taking off. This is something I’ve been working on for a few years now and it would seem that I’ve finally found the time and the place for it to work. I feel so absolutely blessed. Unbelievable. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! From this vantage point, it’s looking pretty damn bright.
